Why “kyudu” and a purple gorilla?
There’s a pretty simple explanation for the name: the word Kyudu, pronounced Kyou-dou, is Japanese for to work together, coordinate, or collaborate.
The logic behind the gorilla is a bit more scientific: in the biological kingdom, primates are one of a select group of species that engage in a behavior called 'reciprocal altruism' - they lend each other favors with the expectation that those favors will be repaid at some point in the future.
In our view, reciprocal altruism goes hand in hand with collaboration: whenever any executive agrees to assist a peer in overcoming a given business challenge, he or she will inevitably sacrifice some of his time and energy. As a result, the only way that collaboration can consistently take place between our members is if there is an implicit understanding that their altruistic behavior will be rewarded in the future.
The purple primate subsequently represents a cornerstone of our guiding philosophy - to create a community that fosters trust between our members, encourages reciprocation, and drives collaboration. Ultimately, we hope to provide our members with a platform that enables them to help one another achieve personal and professional success.
